Laser Hair Removal
Hair removal can be the worst part of people’s grooming routines. Laser hair removal frees the time-consuming burden of shaving or waxing. Of all the different options available, laser hair removal is the only one that provides long-lasting results.
At Cornerstone Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine, many patients ask about the method of laser hair removal. How does it work?
How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
At Cornerstone Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine, we use Cynosure Icon MaxR Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) systems by Palomar. These systems provide the ultimate laser hair removal system, freeing our patients from topical creams, sharp razors, hot wax, or painful electrolysis.
The systems don’t remove the hair. Instead, laser hair removal targets the melanin in the hair follicles to stop or delay further growth. A low-energy laser gently disables unwanted hair by scanning the skin rather than treating one hair at a time. Laser hair removal can treat large areas in a fast, safe, and effective treatment.
What to Expect During Laser Hair Removal
The treatment takes under an hour or faster, depending on the size of the treatment area. Dr. Coville will adjust the laser’s settings to your specific needs. Most patients say that the laser energy feels like a rubber band snapping against the skin. The Cynosure Icon MaxR uses cooling technology to make the treatment more comfortable. We also use an additional cooling jet called a Zimmer to make it an even more gentle experience.
How Long Does Laser Hair Removal Last?
Laser Hair Removal requires 4-8 sessions to achieve ideal results. The results are near-permanent for some people but don’t last forever. Depending on the person, laser hair removal can last several months to years with maintenance treatments. After laser hair removal, the hair usually grows thinner and sparser than before.
Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is an excellent method for anyone wanting to remove unwanted hair from the face, chin, back, arm, underarm, bikini line, and other areas. Ideal candidates have fair skin and dark hair due to the lasers targeting the melanin in the hair. The greater the contrast between the skin and hair, the more optimal the results.
Patients with grey or white hair may require alternative treatment. Dr. Coville discusses all your hair removal options in a comprehensive consultation.
