Breast Augmentation
If you desire to enhance your breasts to improve your self-confidence and feel comfortable in your skin, breast augmentation at Cornerstone Plastic Surgery may be a good option.
What Is Breast Augmentation?
Mammoplasty or breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that increases the breasts’ size and/or shapes. At Cornerstone Plastic Surgery, Dr. Coville also performs breast augmentation procedures to improve breast symmetry and enhance the overall appearance of the chest.
How Does a Breast Augmentation Work?
There are different types of breast augmentation approaches available at Cornerstone Plastic Surgery. One of them involves using breast implants. First, Dr. Coville will help you choose the best implants for your cosmetic goals, as they come in different shapes and sizes. Next, the surgical team will administer general anesthesia.
During the procedure, plastic surgeon Dr. Coville will make hidden incisions underneath your underarms, breasts, or around your nipples. Next, he will place silicone or saline implants in your breast pockets, which could be under the breast tissue, above, or under the chest muscles. The placement of the implant depends on your aesthetic goals. Finally, Dr. Coville will close your incisions, leaving barely noticeable scars.
Dr. Coville can also perform breast augmentation using fat grafting. During a fat transfer breast augmentation procedure, Dr. Coville will harvest fat from another area of your body, such as the thighs, abdomen, or buttocks. Next, he will inject this fat into certain areas of your breasts, giving you an aesthetically-pleasing, voluminous bust.
How Long Do Breast Augmentation Results Last?
Although breast augmentation is not permanent, the results are long-lasting. Your implants may last anywhere from 10 to 20 years, on average. However, many patients get them removed or replaced after 8 to 10 years to avoid implant rupture or complications. The results of fat transfer to the breasts are long-lasting, as they can last indefinitely.
What Is Breast Augmentation Recovery Like?
After your breast augmentation surgery, following Dr. Coville’s post-surgery instructions is essential to make a safe, speedy recovery. You will need plenty of rest and must avoid strenuous activity for a few weeks.
You will experience some pain and discomfort for a few days, which are manageable with antibiotics and pain medications prescribed by Dr. Coville. During your recovery, you will wear a post-operative bra to help with the pain, support your breasts, and increase the healing process. You will start to notice a better breast shape within 2-3 weeks, but your final results will become visible several months after surgery.
Am I a Candidate for a Breast Augmentation?
If you want to improve uneven breasts and increase their size after major weight loss or breastfeeding, you may be a good candidate for breast augmentation. It is also important that candidates for breast augmentation surgery have realistic expectations about the procedure. Make an in-person appointment with Dr. Coville at Cornerstone Plastic Surgery, who will help you determine if breast augmentation is right for you.
