Is Breast Augmentation Permanent?

Breast Augmentation
Many women feel frustrated with their breasts’ size, symmetry, or appearance. This common concern has made breast augmentation one of the most popular plastic surgeries. Enhancing your breasts can improve your confidence, and the newest implant models are extremely safe and long-lasting.
What is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation is a way to improve breast volume and shape. This goal can be achieved with implants or fat transfer from another part of your body. Dr. Coville has performed breast augmentation for over 25 years, specializing in results that enhance your figure and look naturally amazing. Breast augmentation with implants is more invasive than fat transfer breast augmentation, which only uses a few small incisions for liposuction.
Is Breast Augmentation Permanent?
How long your breast augmentation lasts depends on the type of procedure. Breast implants are long-lasting but not permanent. The average lifespan of an implant is ten to fifteen years. However, many women enjoy their implants for up to twenty years without issues. Some women have their implants removed to replace them or address concerns such as scar tissue.
Fat transfer breast augmentation provides lifelong results. The transferred fat cells will establish themselves in your breasts and remain there for the rest of your life. The appearance of your results can change if your weight changes significantly.
What Kind of Breast Implants Should I Get?
Your breast implants are a very personal choice. Dr. Coville will give you a clear understanding of the results you can expect with each implant type.
Silicone Implants
Dr. Coville recommends this implant type for most women. Silicone implants may contain silicone gel or a more solid material (a Gummy Bear implant). These implants provide the most natural look and feel.
Saline Implants
Saline implants tend to look more obvious and feel firmer than natural breasts. However, they may be appropriate in some circumstances. Only a consultation can determine which implant type will provide the best results.
Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation
This type of breast augmentation does not use implants. The results look and feel more natural than any other method of breast enhancement. However, fat transfer may not be able to achieve some women’s goals for shape or size.
What is Recovery Like After Breast Augmentation?
You can expect some swelling, bruising, and soreness, especially for the first 24 to 48 hours. Many people can return to work within a few days. You will continue to wear a surgical bra while your breasts heal. Your breasts may feel sore and sensitive for several weeks, so you should avoid strenuous physical activities. Bruising fades within a few weeks, and swelling resolves over the next few months.
